Donald Trump & Kim Jong Un & Rockets #1

Donald Trump & Kim Jong Un & Rockets #1

We live in very interesting times. And these two guys are responsible for producing a large amount of news these days. There is a new missile or nuclear test, bombers fly over, aircraft carriers are on decisive missions – you name it. Will they fire more than just words? Shall we evaporate as a result of a nuclear fallout? I guess we won’t so…. Where are the stamps in all of that? Don’t worry, there are some already launched 😊

Who is Donald Trump?

You could write books about Donald. No matter do you love him or not, one thing is sure, he is a controversial person. Some would say he’s a complete idiot while others would find him a genius. But that’s not important here.

Before his political career, he was well-known as businessmen, being a 3rd business generation in his family. Most of his business was centered around real estates and that’s the main source of his wealth. Of course, that with wealth you get these problems like few wives, many lovers, a few kids, being a topic in the tabloids. His companies also bankrupted 4 times (so far). So yes, it was pretty intense.

Donald Trump is the 45th and current president of the United States of America. He’s in office since January 20, 2017. At the moment he announced his candidacy for President of the United States, many looked at it as on the joke and didn’t give him any chances. His first big victory was when he won the Republican nomination as their candidate for president.

His second and current victory is when he won the United States presidential election against Hillary Clinton. Although Hillary had almost 3 million votes more than Donald, due to the nature of the election process, Donald became a president. He won using the slogan “Make America Great Again” and with promises like:

  • Revising trade deals
  • Exit from the Paris climate change deal
  • Replacing Affordable Care Act – ACA (also known as Obamacare)
  • Deporting all illegal immigrants
  • Ban on Muslims
  • Insisting that Mexico pays for the border wall between the USA and Mexico
  • Criticism of NATO pact

and many others. Some of his promises are fulfilled, others are in progress with less or more chance of success and most of the failed or are abandoned.

It could look much better if other countries issue stamps that celebrate the certain event. So why wouldn’t we find Donald Trump on stamps from Liberia, Niger or the Central African Republic?

IGPC Issues – Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Liberia

In the previous article, I’ve already mentioned IGPC so I’ll be short here. They are a company that issues stamps for the countries that agree to work with them. Two such cases are Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Liberia. Both of these two countries issued stamps related to the Donald Trump’s victory in presidential elections.

Both countries have the $ sign on their stamps. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines uses the East Caribbean dollar (XCD) as their currency (1 USD = 2.7 XCD) while Liberia uses Liberian dollar (LRD) as the currency (1 USD ~ 118 LRD).

I won’t comment any further. Please just take a look and enjoy.

Liberia – February 28, 2017 – Presidents of the United States of America

1st row – Herbert Hoover, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy

2nd row – Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan

3rd row – George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump

Stamperija Issues – Sao Tome and Principe, Niger and Central African Republic

But IGPC is not the only such company in the World. Stamperija from Lithuania is one other such company. They issue stamps for a smaller number of countries than the IGPC does. The motifs used on their stamps are not only “Americanized”- ones, but you could also find e.g. cosmonauts and athletes from CCCP.  But yes, they also issued a number of Donald stamps.

We’ll meet stamps/sheets from Sao Tome and Principe, Niger and Central African Republic. The currencies used in these countries are:

  • Sao Tome and PrincipeSao Tomean Dobra (STD) – 1 USD ~ 20.700 STD
  • NigerWest African CFA franc (XOF) – 1 USD ~ 550 XOF
  • Central African RepublicCentral African CFA franc (XAF) – 1 USD ~550 XAF

Sao Tome and Principe – November 10, 2016

Niger – December 21, 2016

Niger – December 21, 2016

Central African Republic – April 20, 2016

There were also other stamps even from the period before Donald Trump became the president of the USA. These stamps included Donald and Hillary in their role of presidential candidates as motifs. I guess that when you see these stamps you can easily see how far philately as business went. To me personally, there is more than nostalgia in old stamps than in those that are simply produced for collecting. But, that’s only me.

In the upcoming article, we’ll see Kim Jong Un and rockets. Be sure not to miss it, you don’t see missile tests on stamps every day 😊
